We didn't even HAVE white cars. Except in the winter. Then the cars were white so long as it snowed the night before. Otherwise they were gray cars.

We still had to mail the polaroids in to Nick Denton's secretary. But we also had to send in some cookies, or else they wouldn't get tracked for us!

And we had to use magnesium for the flash. In the snow. Uphill both ways. With the wind blowing us backwards. It's a wonder we ever got anything done.

The funny thing is, I was engaging in only contrarian theme-day related posts (see: the 1900s White cars). Nibbles going beyond the pale, pun intended, only inspires me to post cars past its dysfunctions out of spite.

That wasn't directed at you per se; it was directed at everyone who feels that they need to spam the shit out of Oppo with moronic single-picture posts that actually make it harder to get at the very good content that is occasionally posted.

I get that there is the concern that a theme post may be lost down the thread as time goes on, but there are two solutions to that. The first is simple: Less spam means that good posts stay up front longer. The second rule is actually also pretty simple: Keep posting in it, and it's make the "most popular" list on the left of the screen.

I often find the best thing is to schedule themed posts. That way, they stay -in-theme with a given day, but drop later in the day when people aren't spamming the page with nothing but. That also means the best posts in the theme don't have to come all at once, and I can mix in more typical content posts.
